Bronze Champions in Handball

Congratulations to medalists at the Greater Manchester School Games.

The team included:

Blake Smith, Omar Ali, Morgan Burtwhistle Smith, Amir Rahman, Mohammed Abu Ramouz, Tom  Morris, Anees Hamad, Abdul Abdulla and Dillon Greensmith.

The event started with a Greatersport and Key 103 opening ceremony to hype up all the athletes for the day’s games across all sports with a performance from Britain’s Got Talent star Henry Gregory.

Pupils also met Olympic Handball Star Christopher McDermott, British Handball player. He competed as part of Team GB at the 2012 London Olympic Games.

The academy’s boys team reached the semi-final but lost to Hyde (Tameside) which put them into the 3rd/4th play-off against Siddal Moor (Rochdale).  Winning this game 3-2 meant the boys took the bronze medal for Salford.

Lyndsey Nolan, School Games Coordinator said:

“Miss Udall and I were so impressed with the boys’ sportsmanship and general attitude throughout  the whole competition.  They were a real credit to themselves, their families and the academy! Great ambassadors!”
