Dance Workshop at the Lowry Theatre

A group of Year 10 and 11 students studying BTEC Dance enjoyed a trip to the Lowry Theatre in Salford to take part in a dance workshop with a professional dancer.

The aim of the day was to increase students’ knowledge and understanding of how to develop action content and choreograph material to produce a dance based on their own interpretation of a stimuli.  The day began with a walk around the L.S. Lowry art exhibition; the students then used their ideas and thoughts to choreograph a group dance piece.  The students listened to and observed the professional dancer in order to learn about choreography and they followed her advice to come up with their own dance phrases.

Miss Kelleher, Teacher of Dance said:

“this workshop contributed highly to both the GCSE and BTEC group. It provided a new learning experience for the BTEC group, as they performed a dance style that they have had no previous experience in. The pupils from both groups also learnt how to choreograph a dance piece using a stimulus to inspire choreographic ideas, which was highly beneficial to the GCSE students as their final dance piece requires them to choreograph a dance based on a stimuli of their choice; with artwork being an option”.
