Early Start for Salford Students

Year 6 Induction Week

Local Year 6 primary school children were invited to an induction week at Salford City Academy as part of it’s comprehensive transition programme.

The visit was a chance for the academy’s future Year 7 students to settle into their new surroundings before they start high school in September.

The ‘Induction Week’ is a unique transition initiative and new for Salford City Academy, which formerly held an opt-in Summer School for Year 6 students.

Rachel Lyons, Salford City Academy’s Transition Co-ordinator, said:

“The induction week is an exciting opportunity for these youngsters to start academy life early, helping them to adjust to the new environment, make new friends and dispel any worries about the move from primary to secondary.”

Just over 150 students have taken part in the scheme and they have experienced a range of academisation tasks, assemblies, mentor sessions and lesson tasters.

Academy partners, PZ Cussons and LLS, also delivered sessions for our students, with science and sport used to help build teamwork and communication skills.

Helen Mackenzie OBE, Principal, adds:

“This week is just one part of an excellent programme, which helps to ease students into high school and help motivate and excite them for secondary school.  The induction week is an excellent way to help our new students settle and enable them to hit the ground running in September.”
