Goodbye Year 11

An emotional morning for Year 11s as we wish them farewell!

Year 11 squeezed in an English exam this morning before gathering to depart the Academy for study leave!

Students first enjoyed a celebratory piece of cake and were presented with a commemorative Year Leavers book.

Then everyone gathered to hear from both students and staff, and enjoy presentations from each of the five years at the Academy.  There were lots of photos and good luck messages from staff to the much-loved year group.

Miss Pursglove said:  “This is a fantastic year group which offers lots of support to each other – it’s a very a special group.”

Both Head Boy and Head Girl Keidan Randles and Melissa Raynor gave speeches about their time here.

Melissa said:  “I’d like to thank all my good friends and the inspirational staff.”

Keidan said:  “Today shouldn’t be a day of sadness but a happy day to start a new chapter.”

There was a light-hearted award ceremony, as voted for by the students, for those most likely to become a millionaire, a film star, a teacher and a lawyer to name a few!

Mr Davies then presented the Duke of Edinburgh students with their Bronze Awards and certificates and praised their hard work and effort.

Students heard from both their former Year Leader Mr Healey, who made a surprise return to wish them well, as well as their current Year Leader Mrs Perkins.

Mrs Perkins said:  “Go and grab the world and see what’s out there!”

Finally, Principal Mrs Mackenzie closed the assembly.  She said:

“You have shown me how ambitious you all are to do well.  I have been truly inspired by each and every one of you and I want you to be the best you can be.”

It was then up to Mr Fair to dismiss Year 11.  He said:  “A big round of applause for where you’re up to right now – but we’re only half way there! We’re looking forward to exam results in August.”
