Prospective students encouraged to listen, learn and create at Open Evening

Prospective students are being encouraged to ‘make and take’ with a series of exciting activities and workshops as Salford City Academy opens its doors on Thursday 24th September.

This year’s event comes on the back of another strong set of exam results for the academy, with the Sixth Form celebrating a 100% pass rate for the seventh successive year (including 86% of entries achieving A* - A grades) and all Year 13 students from 2014/15 securing places in higher education, employment or training.

Running from 6pm until 8pm at the Northfleet Road site in Eccles, this year’s open evening sees Principal Helen Mackenzie OBE, her students and staff showcase the very best of the academy, with tours, demonstrations and interactive workshops.

Principal Helen Mackenzie said:

“Apart from the usual things people expect to see at an open evening, this time around we are actively asking prospective students and their parents to get stuck in and take part in making their own masterpieces in our art workshops, baking pizzas in cookery, experimenting in science and taking home what they create.”

 Other activities include:

  • Portrait drawing in art
  • Role play in drama
  • Word games using the interactive whiteboards
  • Free books as part of the ‘Booked Up’ scheme
  • ‘Dragons Den’ style business presentations
  • Robotics displays

In addition to the open evening, Salford City Academy is also holding a series of open mornings, from 10am until midday on Tuesday 22nd, Wednesday 23rd, Tuesday 29th and Wednesday 30th September.
