Salford City Academy Launches Annual Award

Bishop of Manchester and former Academy Governor present funding donation to support the scheme

Salford City Academy (SCA) has launched a new annual awards scheme for students, funded by former academy governor Professor Diana Kloss MBE.

Professor Kloss has made the personal donation of £2,000 to help honour the work of former Bishop of Manchester Nigel McCulloch, who, in his role for the Diocese of Manchester (a sponsoring partner of SCA), worked closely alongside the academy, and particularly as a commendation for his outstanding communication work.

The generous donation will be used to fund a new annual student award, rewarding those who demonstrate outstanding multi-level communication through their verbal, written, presentational, and interpersonal skills, with the first award presented at the academy’s Annual Achievement Ceremony held at the end of the academic year in July.

Commenting on the award, Salford City Academy Principal Helen Mackenzie said:

“We are extremely grateful to Professor Kloss for this very generous donation and also to Reverend McCulloch for his outstanding work with the academy in previous years. This funding and the new annual award will help to encourage and promote excellent communications and leadership skills amongst our students. We already have a wide range of opportunities within the academy to support them in that, ranging from our ‘Debate Mate’ initiative through to the Student Council, which plays an active role in the life of the academy.”

Professor Kloss and the current Bishop of Manchester, Rt Reverend David Walker, visited the academy on Wednesday 16th December to present the donation to the academy and saw for themselves how the money will be used, as well as met the Student Council and visited the academy’s English Department.
