Stepping Stones

A group of Year 6 pupils due to start at the academy in September 2015 visited for a Stepping Stones day on the 22nd June 2015.

Stepping Stones is a support programme to help pupils make a smoother transition from primary to secondary.  As part of our vision, Stepping Stones seeks to promote early intervention and support when required.

The children began the day with some team building exercises, including a ‘truth and lies’ game about themselves and their likes and dislikes.

They also enjoyed a tour of the school and a treasure hunt to familiarize themselves with the building.

Finally, they undertook some lesson tasters.  In art they drew a self-portrait using items in a collage to describe their personality.

Our Year 7 Peer Mentors were on hand to help answer questions, play games and demonstrate putting on a school tie!

Each pupil received a certificate of achievement from the day.

Rachel Lyons, Transition Coordinator said:

“The aim of the day is to give these children the very best possible start to their secondary school life and to help dispel worries and create excitement about the move ahead.”
