Stepping Stones

Transition event for new Year 7 students

We welcomed a group of Year 6 pupils, due to start at the academy in September 2016, for a special Stepping Stones day on 20th June 2016.

The special transition day provides support for pupils moving from primary to secondary.

The children began the day with an ‘introduction’ session with name badge decorating and learning each other’s names.

They then took part in some teambuilding exercises to help get to know each other and build their confidence.  These included play doh modelling, circle time and a treasure hunt.

All the children enjoyed a tour of the school to start to learn their way around and also had a taste of the canteen’s offerings for lunch.

Finally, they participated in a creative session and learnt to draw a self-portrait using items in a collage to describe their personality.

Our Year 7 Peer Mentors joined the Year 6s at the end of the day to talk about Salford City Academy and answer lots of questions!

Each pupil received a certificate of achievement from the day.

Rachel Lyons, Transition Co-ordinator, said:

“Stepping Stones is a great way to support children in the move to secondary and dispel their worries. Everyone had a great day and made new friends prior to starting in September!”
