Stepping Stones to Success

Year 6 pupils from twelve different primary schools came to the academy this week for a special transition event.
“Stepping Stones” is a unique scheme which has been part of the academy’s Transition programme for a number of years. Students are invited to attend the academy for a day, acting as ambassadors for their primary schools. The aim of the day is to allow students to develop positive relationships with staff and their future classmates, and to see what life at the academy is like.
The days began with ice breaker games, followed by a tour of the school. The students then took part in a treasure hunt-style Orienteering exercise, to develop their team working skills and utilise their knowledge of the school building. After a buffet lunch, students spent the afternoon creating a “memory box” and reflecting on the skills they had gained throughout the day.
The day was thoroughly enjoyed by staff and students alike, and our future Year 7 pupils reported feeling more confident about the move to secondary school and that they had made new friends.
Miss Lyons, Transition Coordinator, commented:
“Stepping Stones has been a huge success once again. The students represented their primary schools brilliantly and we are really pleased with all that they have achieved.”
Year 6 students will attend Salford City Academy for an Induction Day next week, to help them feel even more prepared for when they start secondary school in September.
