Supporting Syrian Crisis

Raising money and supplies for refugees

Salford City Academy came together in order to raise funds and supplies in support of the refugee crisis.

Students and staff planned a number of fundraising events to help support refugees in their plight for safety.

The collection point in the academy saw many generous donations of clothing, toiletries and children’s toys. These were then donated for the ‘Salford to Calais’ trip on Friday 17th October.

All mentor groups competed to raise the most supplies and money.  Individual fundraising efforts included:

  • 7PTH held a fantastic funny run in fancy dress! All hub members pledged to do something funny instead of just running e.g. cartwheels, running backwards, hobbling on two walking sticks.  They raised a massive £118.2
  • 7SHL sold cakes in aid of the Syria Appeal and raised a fantastic £39.38
  • There is a penny collection jar being taken round by Year 8s collecting coppers and small change; feel free to empty your pockets!

Teacher Lauren Monks said:

“A special mention to Keeley Maggs and Julia Chrzanowska for their endless efforts in supporting the campaign throughout, alongside Elizabeth Titilope and Alethea Biesty for assisting in encouraging all students to bring in items and engage in sponsored activities. Thanks to everyone for your support!”

Principal Helen Mackenzie OBE adds:

“A huge thank you to Lauren Monks for her mammoth task in organising aid for the Syrian Refugees- well done Lauren. Also thanks to all other staff who are, with their hubs, raising money for many worthwhile charities.”
