University Gateways

Year 8 and 9 participate in university events

Students were invited to University of Manchester Gateways events recently, as a part of a ‘familiarisation’ scheme.

On 1st March, a group of Year 9 students visited the university to look at the variety of courses on offer, tour the campus and learn more about university life from student ambassadors.

They all took part in interactive workshops with PHD students looking at:

Biology – recreating a human intestine

Politics – the UN

Physics – space travel

On 10th March, a group of Year 8 students then visited, enjoying a similar day and then taking part in the following workshops:

Biomechanics - extracting DNA from strawberries

European history - Columbian passage

Chemical engineering - how is fairy liquid made?
