Winter School Games

Olympic spirit alive as Winter School Games comes to Greater Manchester

Schools from across the 10 boroughs of Greater Manchester will be battling it out on 15th March in this year's Winter School Games.

Launched in the wake of the 2012 London Olympics, the School Games is a unique opportunity to motivate and inspire millions of young people across the country to take part in more competitive school sport.

In Salford, schools have been competing against each other since September 2015 to earn the opportunity to represent the borough at next week's event, which will be based at major sporting venues across Manchester, including the National Cycling Centre, The Manchester Aquatics Centre and SportCity Eastlands Athletics Track. Students from Salford City Academy will also be providing support as Crew Officials at the games.

Salford Schools taking part in the Winter School Games are:

  • U16 Tag Rugby Union (Disability) – Oakwood Academy
  • Y7/8 Swimming Gala Boys and Girls Teams - St Patrick’s RC High School and Arts College
  • U13 Table Tennis Boys and Girls Teams – Oasis Media City Academy

Commented Lyndsey Nolan, Salford School Games Organiser, who is based at Salford City Academy:

"It's fantastic to see so many schools and young people representing Salford, showing pride in themselves, their schools and their local area at the Winter School Games. I hope that all those taking part enjoy themselves and wish them all the very best of luck."
