Work Experience Week 2014

Work Experience Week was a huge success this year, with our Year 10 students undertaking placements from Monday 24th – Friday 28th March 2014.

Students spent the week experiencing a wide range of careers, including placements at Salford Royal Hospital, the Army, Silver Blades Ice Rink, Jamie’s Italian restaurant, Animals in Distress and nursery, primary and secondary schools.

The students were fantastic ambassadors for Salford City Academy, with many employers commenting on our students’ initiative, team working skills and punctuality.

Students enjoyed the opportunity to try out the working world and gave lots of positive feedback about the week. Leah Owen, who worked at Salford Royal Hospital for the week, said:

“I learnt how to do patient’s blood pressures and temperatures. It was interesting to work in a new place and help people, the week was too short!”

Karl Waddicor, who spent his work experience week at Felicini’s restaurant, commented:

“I learned about different types of food preparation and techniques. I enjoyed making bruschetta which is a popular food in the restaurant, and learning about safely handling knives.”

Jordi Lewis, who attended the week-long Army residential trip, said:

“I learned new communication skills and that I have better stamina than I thought! I enjoyed meeting the instructors who had some great stories.”

Thank you to all the employers who took on our students and to the academy staff who helped during the week.
