Alethea and Charlotte Mean Business

A team of Year 8 students from Salford City Academy have placed second in the regional final of the Apax-Mosaic Enterprise Challenge.

The team of Alethea Biesty and Charlotte Rushworth were selected for the regional final from over 100 entries from high schools across the North West. The competition took place on 20th March 2014, where the girls were required to give a three minute presentation on a business venture that would benefit their school and the local community.

With assistance from volunteers from PZ Cussons Ltd, the team put together an event pitch for “#BRK FST” (Brook Fest), a concert with local DJs and bands, food, drink and crafts made by students and community groups. The profits from the event would be used to buy music lessons for students and residents who are unable to afford this luxury, with the intention to encourage more people to learn an instrument and get into music. The team conducted a survey on their peers at Salford City Academy to determine how much to charge for entry to the event and the type of musical acts students would like to have perform. The girls used the results from their survey as part of their presentation in the regional final.

The pitches were judged by four professionals from business backgrounds, who were impressed with the Salford City Academy team’s clear and confident presentation. Congratulations to the girls who placed second in the regional final!
