Festival Fever

Primary events at Salford City Academy

Primary pupils are taking over at Salford City Academy, which is staging a range of transition ‘festivals’ to help give the youngsters a taste of life at secondary school.

The academy is giving the young visitors an insight into its different curriculum areas, with Year 5 pupils from Westwood Park and Beech Street primaries taking part in Humanities Festivals.

During their visit, the children took part in a range of activities, including investigating different religions as part of RE and looking at what it’s like to live near volcanoes in Geography.

November will also see Year 5 pupils from Godfrey Ermen and St Andrews primaries visit the academy for Science-themed festivals.

In addition to the festivals, the academy has also held a series of art workshops throughout October for Year 6 pupils, with seven local primary schools involved.

Commented Salford City Academy’s Transition Co-ordinator:

“The move from primary to secondary education can be a daunting one for children and their parents.  Through our dedicated transition programme, our aim here at Salford City Academy is to make the process as smooth as possible, as well as exciting and fun. The festivals give these children a taste of the secondary curriculum as well as life at high school, and they are proving popular with our primary schools.”
