This term, we were pleased to welcome Mr Aly, Headteacher, and Mr Sayeed, PE Teacher, from our International Inspirations link school Abbas El Attei Experimental in Alexandria, Egypt.

The week-long reciprocal visit marked the second stage in the partnership programme aimed at enriching the lives of children using the Olympic legacy.

Mr Morrison, Subject Leader PE, and Mr Healey, Year Leader, co-ordinated a week of meetings and events to offer our guests an insight into academy life and, in particular, providing an in-depth view of the academy's sport and PE provision.

After spending time with Principal Mike Cording and meeting other staff members, Mr Aly and Mr Sayeed, visited many lessons and showed a keen interest in Science as well as PE.

Salford City Academy students played a key role in the week, giving our visitors a flavour of the academy and education in the UK.

Mr Aly and Mr Sayeed visited the School Games Basketball competition and watched our students compete against other schools, Year 9 students put on a football match in their honour impressing them with their sport skills and academy ambassadors also met with them for an informal chat about the differences between the two schools.

More work was undertaken on the 3-year development plan started during the visit to Egypt last year, with the academy offering their expertise.  Abbas El Attei Experimental hope to develop sport leadership through the children, as well as improve their community profile and parental engagement by setting up community groups and events based on Sport and also Music, Art and Drama.

The partner programme will encourage academy students to learn and appreciate a different culture and the academy will be using Egyptian themes, for example, to boost engagement in dance and music, as well as Literacy with projects such as Pen Pals.

Finally, we treated our visitors to some tourist trips including visits to Manchester and Chester, the Trafford Centre and also Manchester United.  The week concluded with exchanges of gifts - we gave our partner school branded stationery, PE uniform and equipment to take back to Egypt. We were delighted to receive an Egyptian football kit, inscribed papaya paper and Cleopatra key-rings!
