Reach for the Future

New careers scheme for Year 8

Salford City Academy are running a brand new careers programme with Year 8 students called Reach for the Future.

The aim of the programme is to prepare and inspire young people and to increase students’ knowledge of STEM (Science, Technology, English and Maths) subjects and the careers which they relate to.

Year 8 students will be split into 3 groups and throughout the year they will meet with the coach from Career Connect for 5 consecutive weeks.

At the end of the programme, when all students have experienced the workshops, they will then be involved in a Careers Fair just for Year 8s in April.

So far student activities have included drama games to build confidence in public speaking, an engineering ‘paper bag’ challenge and a ‘Mental Toughness’ questionnaire.
