Students published in Young Writers competition

We would like to congratulate 13 of our Year 9 pupils who have been successful in a Young Writers competition.

The challenge for our pupils was to write a chilling poem or the introduction to a short story to keep the reader gripped!  The successful students’’ work has been printed in a book entitled SPINE-CHILLERS.

The Young Writers organisation co-ordinates national competitions to encourage student participation in literacy activities.  Published books include work from students across the country and are stocked in all UK and Republic of Ireland libraries, providing a lasting record of their achievement.

Debbie Wilkinson, Learning Resource Manager, said:

“We’ve been doing these competitions with our students for nine years and it gives me great pleasure to be see their hard work in print. Well done to the students who have been published.”

There will also be a copy within the academy’s library for students, staff and visitors to read.  It sits alongside copies of books from past competitions, which academy students also feature in.

Congratulations to Gerard White, Oliver Lefley, Ramiar Shafie, Hassam Shahid, Molly Burtonwood, Jordan Kurtz, Abdulqader Abdulla, Anees Hamad, Blake Smith, Acer Kennedy, Mikhail Cherepovski, Mackenzie Mercer and Leah Morris.
