Student Voice

As part of a Student Council initiative, departments have been encouraged to establish their own Subject Councils.

Our departments are delighted to introduce their councils for English, Maths, humanities, science, PE and creative arts, and vocational.

The Subject Councils will work alongside the main school Student Council which encourage student of all ages to take an active role in the decision-making processes of the Academy.  As such students from each year group have committed to join the Subject Councils.

The aims of the Subject Councils are to give students a voice about lessons and to further improve learning, enthusiasm and engagement in lessons.

To begin, students are gathering opinion from their year groups with a questionnaire about subject lesson content, grades and levels.

Joshua, Year 10 and a member of the Vocational Council said:

“Being part of the council gives students a voice to help improve things.  It’s good that we have a chance to come up with ideas for change and represent our year at meetings.
