Thai U12 Football Team visits Academy

We were delighted to welcome Thailand's XI U12 Youth Squad to Salford City Academy on Wednesday 7th May.
The team took on Salford City Academy in three football matches, as part of the project ‘Hero for Children Thailand,’ which provides football training for youngsters living in areas suffering from war, violence and crime.
Hailing from southern Thailand, the squad were selected from over 1,000 children from 56 districts in the five provinces of Southern Thailand. Following a three week training camp, the group flew into England earlier this month for the tour which included football matches against school teams from across Salford.
The Thai team’s latest opponents on the tour were Salford City Academy, who despite the home advantage saw the visitors win two of the three matches with scores of 3-0 and 2-0. The academy team took the third match 1-0.
The Thai visitors also had the opportunity to experience part of a school day with Salford City Academy students, taking part in Technology and English lessons.
Liam Morrison, Head of Sports and Creative Arts at the academy, said:
“Playing against an international team was a fantastic experience for our students. It was great to welcome our Thai visitors to Salford City Academy and we look forward to seeing them again next year.”
‘Hero for Children Thailand’ is a football-based project, focused on helping children from Southern Thailand affected by war, violence, crime and drug issues. Currently in its 12th year, the project is championed by Colonel Adulpakdee Maliphan and encourages young people to use their leisure time to unify southern provinces as well as to develop a generation of talented athletes.
