Year 9 World of Work Day

Year 9 meet and talk to local business volunteers about their careers and working life.

On 16th December, volunteers from the Army and the building trade as well as a School Liaison Officer and a banker visited Salford City Academy to meet groups of Year 9 students and answer their questions.

On a rotation-basis, groups of students asked about training, pay, responsibilities and likes/dislikes of each volunteer’s career.

Students were inquisitive and gained a real world perspective on a range of careers.

Some were surprised by what they learnt.  For example, pupils learnt about pay scales in varying careers and expected much better pay in the world of banking.  They were also interested to learn how far travelled the Army volunteer was and his experiences, which included shark diving!
