Internet Safety Warning

Please be aware of the dangers of new site Omegle

We have been asked by Greater Manchester Police to warn parents and carers about an issue involving children using the website Omegle or Omegle States (USA).

Omegle is an online chat room which needs no registration process whatsoever, and is often linked with other ‘copycat’ sites involving significant adult content.  The site matches you with a stranger, and you simply click and go to start chatting, and this includes video chat.

Please see this information sheet with more detail, which highlights the risk of how easy it is for children to become vulnerable.

We would encourage parents to be aware of the Omegle site and anything similar such as Omegle UK, and various associated apps such as ‘Chat for Omegle’, ‘Free Omegle Chat’, ‘Omeglers’, so you can try to prevent your children from accessing them.

If you require any further resources regarding internet safety for pupils look at www.thinkuknow.co.uk
