Salford City Academy students celebrate GCSE results

Students and staff at Salford City Academy are celebrating receiving the school’s GCSE results today. In total, 43% of students achieved five or more GCSEs at grades A* to C including English and maths – a leap of 13 percentage points on last summer’s results.

The strength of the academy’s English provision was demonstrated by the fact that 64.8% of students achieved a C grade or above in the subject. This is more than three percentage points higher than the new 2014 national average (61.7%).

Amidst the whole-school success a number of notable individual performances stood out, including:

  • Byan Abu Dakka, who achieved 4 A*s (Arabic, French, chemistry and maths), 3 As (English, biology and physics) and 2 Bs (geography and English Literature).
  • Matthew Collantine, who achieved an A* in maths, 4 As (English, biology, chemistry and physics) and 4 Bs (history, French, English Literature and citizenship).
  • Atteager Johnson, who achieved an A* in childcare, 2 As (English and English Literature), 2 Bs (chemistry and maths) and 3Cs (biology, physics and citizenship).
  • Jack Harris, who achieved an A* (business studies), 2 As (citizenship and English), 3 Bs (English Literature, maths and PE) and 2 Cs (double science)
  • Sophy Ireland, who achieved 2 A*s (biology and childcare), 4 As (citizenship, maths, chemistry and physics) and 2 Bs (English and English Literature).
  • Chloe Harte, who achieved an A* in business studies, 3 As (English, maths and citizenship), 4 Bs (Art, Graphics, English Literature and additional science) and a C in core science.

Chloe will be starting at Pendleton College in September, studying A levels in Textiles, Photography, Graphics and Psychology. Chloe said:

“I am really happy with my A in Maths. My teacher worked so hard and really helped me, I can’t believe I got it!”

 Sophy Ireland said:

"I am really pleased with my results and so happy to have got an A* in Biology and an A in Maths. They are really important for studying Medicine, which is what I would like to do in the future.”

Last week, the academy celebrated a 100% A Level pass rate for the sixth successive year, with an impressive 80% of A Level and equivalent entries achieving A* and A grades. As a result, many Salford Sixth Formers are now getting ready to take up places at university this autumn.

Principal of Salford City Academy, Helen Mackenzie OBE, said:

“I would like to congratulate all of our students who are celebrating good results today and thank the staff who help prepare them for their examinations. It is very encouraging to have produced such a strong rise in the key A*-C figure this summer.

"After seeing a number of our students off to university last week, we look forward to welcoming our top GCSE performers back for Sixth Form in September.”
