Students Rally Round for Lewis

Fundraising in support of Manchester Children's Hospital

Salford City Academy students have been fundraising for Manchester Children’s Hospital, where fellow student Lewis Pierce is currently recovering from illness.

12-year old Lewis, a Year 8 student at the academy, from Eccles has been suffering from an unknown condition for the last three months, with round the clock care from staff at the Children’s Hospital.

To show their support for Lewis and his family, students at Salford City Academy started a series of fundraising events, with all monies raised going to the Manchester Children’s Hospital, by way of thanks for the excellent support Lewis has received.

Events have included a special staff versus students football match organised by the academy’s Sixth Form students, as well as the traditional raffle, with prizes donated by Principal Helen Mackenzie and several Trafford Centre stores, including Boots, BHS and Thorntons.  The academy’s student librarians sold raffle tickets, as well as arranging a ‘guess the number of chocs in the box’ and ‘name the Christmas Reindeer’ competitions.

To date, the academy has raised £183.03 for Manchester Children’s Hospital, with further fundraising activities planned.

Salford City Academy’s Principal Helen Mackenzie OBE said:

“It is fantastic to see our students’ community-spirit, creativity and imagination come to life, all to help show their support for Lewis and the excellent work done by the Manchester Children’s Hospital.”

Sixth Form charity football match organisers Kirsty Coates and Natrice Crick said:

"We saw all the fundraising in the community in Eccles and Winton, so we wanted to do something in school especially for Lewis and his family. Next is a student versus staff netball match!"
