It’s always difficult starting at a new place but I couldn’t ask for a more supportive faculty; everyone has made me feel very welcome and helped me settle in.  I feel like I’ve been part of the team for a lot longer than I actually have.

At Salford City Academy there are numerous policies and expectations in place to help both the students and staff; this has made me feel that the academy is a place where I can develop my skills as a teacher and that I will be supported in my career development. I am fortunate to be part of such a supportive team.

I feel lucky that I’ve been given the support to develop the RS curriculum in line with the locally-agreed syllabus and that there is scope for me to take my teaching outside of the classroom.  Academy students are keen to help and like to share their thoughts on various topics; my GCSE students are especially enthusiastic and hard-working, which makes my job easier!

Sioned Taylor, Religious Studies Teacher (6 months at Salford City Academy)

The challenge and responsibility as the new Alternative Provision (AP) Manager was to develop a provision for students struggling in a mainstream setting.

The impact the tailor-made programme for any student is evident, not least from the results of our 2014/15 Year 11 cohort. Every student is unique and requires specific support from AP and, as such, we want them to leave the academy with the best grades possible to enable them to progress onto the next stage of education and beyond.

Ofsted recognised the benefits of AP and the academy has been rated as ‘Good’ (September 2015.)  I am confident that the AP service I have developed will continue to nurture our learners and show impact.
