Headteacher's Welcome

Welcome to Salford City Academy.

Thank you for taking an interest in developing your career at our academy. I am confident that what you will find here will demonstrate what a vibrant and welcoming learning environment we have at Salford City Academy.

At the academy, we have a very high aspirational culture and all our staff provide a vital contribution to our relentless pursuit of providing the highest standards of educational excellence.

We celebrated receiving a ‘Good’ Ofsted report in September 2015. The academy is maintaining this significant progress with solid foundations in teaching and learning and is aiming to achieve even more highly for the future.

As a part of United Learning, our academy benefits from the shared experiences, working practices and CPD opportunities that the Group offers.

Melanie Haselden, Principal

Vision

Salford City Academy is an 11-19 school, committed to providing the highest possible standards for teaching and learning in “Every Subject, Every Lesson, Every Day.”

Our aim is to ensure all students achieve their academic potential, whilst receiving high-quality pastoral care, in an exceptionally positive climate for learning.

Ultimately, we want all our students to be able to move on successfully in the future.  We believe that students’ success at school and beyond can be driven not by social background or ability but by the quality and kind of education that they receive.

  • Salford City Academy is a friendly community school.
  • Our ‘Every Subject, Every Lesson, Every Day’ mission illustrates how committed and determined we are to ensure our education provision is the very best, so our students can be too.
  • We are caring and supportive of students and their families through our high-quality pastoral care department.
  • The academy encourages and inspires students to be anything they want to be through their studies; we don’t let anything stand in the way of our students’ ambitions.

What our students say...

  • "I think that every pupil is unique in their own way and the academy helps show that."
    Jazmin, Year 7
  • "My best day at Salford City Academy was my first one as I met teachers and new people that became my friends later on."
    Jordanne, Year 7
  • "Salford City Academy prepares you for your future."
    Devon, Year 11
  • “The academy offers a lot of opportunities to boost your confidence.”
    Jack, Year 11

What our staff say...

  • Salford City Academy has supported and encouraged my professional development throughout my employment. I have been extremely privileged to be a part of such an engaging and inspirational team of professionals; who continuously encourage personal and professional growth at every stage of your career.
Danielle Sanderson, English Teacher (6 years at Salford City Academy)
  • It’s always difficult starting at a new place but I couldn’t ask for a more supportive faculty; everyone has made me feel very welcome and helped me settle in.  I feel like I’ve been part of the team for a lot longer than I actually have.

At Salford City Academy there are numerous policies and expectations in place to help both the students and staff; this has made me feel that the academy is a place where I can develop my skills as a teacher and that I will be supported in my career development. I am fortunate to be part of such a supportive team.

I feel lucky that I’ve been given the support to develop the RS curriculum in line with the locally-agreed syllabus and that there is scope for me to take my teaching outside of the classroom.  Academy students are keen to help and like to share their thoughts on various topics; my GCSE students are especially enthusiastic and hard-working, which makes my job easier!
Sioned Taylor, Religious Studies Teacher (6 months at Salford City Academy)
  • The challenge and responsibility as the new Alternative Provision (AP) Manager was to develop a provision for students struggling in a mainstream setting.

The impact the tailor-made programme for any student is evident, not least from the results of our 2014/15 Year 11 cohort. Every student is unique and requires specific support from AP and, as such, we want them to leave the academy with the best grades possible to enable them to progress onto the next stage of education and beyond.

Ofsted recognised the benefits of AP and the academy has been rated as ‘Good’ (September 2015.)  I am confident that the AP service I have developed will continue to nurture our learners and show impact.
Jon Ritchie, Alternative Provision Manager (10 months at Salford City Academy)
