SCA goes global in art competition!

Team Art would like to say a massive well done to Lia in Y11 for submitting a sensational piece of art for the United Learning Art Competition. The competition was open to students aged between 15 – 18 and could be based on a theme of the student’s choice. The winner will represent the UK and receive a round trip to Tokyo to see their work exhibited at the International High School Arts Festival.

Lia’s entry is called ‘Influential Women’

Lia said ‘My art is inspired by women in a position of power, women who hold an occupation that gives them great influence and responsibility. These powerful women inspire people and young girls to achieve and pursue their chosen path to the best of their abilities. Powerful women inspire people for generations to come and bring hope regardless of time in history. It is important that young women have role models like these women to look up to who all started from humble beginnings. They are all normal people with drive and ambition. They strive for excellence and aspire to leave positive changes in the world. Michelle Obama, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ruth Bader Ginsburg have all left positive changes in the world and continue to do so. The flowers represent how women are expected to be by society's standards e.g. pretty, delicate, soft etc. And the contrast is the women I have chosen to draw who are strong, powerful, influential leaders.’

There has been a great response to her work on social media and we are keeping everything crossed for her. Good Luck!
