Knowledge Organisers

At Salford City Academy we feel it is important to help make excellent progress in your child’s learning by reinforcing crucial information beyond the classroom.

Research indicates that for homework to be most effective, it should be carefully organised and monitored. To help structure this important aspect of their learning, all students at Salford City Academy are issued with a Knowledge Organiser. The purpose of this is to set well-structured and challenging homework that strengthens their understanding of key information, concepts and subject specific terminology directly related to the syllabuses that inform their GCSE examinations.

Students should carry their Knowledge Organiser in a plastic wallet to protect it from damage.  It should be brought to school every day, and will be checked as part of their required equipment.  The students receive a new Knowledge Organiser for each new topic they are taught.  They should keep all old Knowledge Organisers safe for revision purposes.

For clarity, each subject will be printed on a different coloured paper, as follows.

English – pink

Maths – green

Science – blue

MFL – yellow

Humanities – lilac

Technology/art/music – lavender

Computing/i-Media – salmon

As well as paper copies of the knowledge organisers, electronic copies are available on the Student Resources section of Microsoft Teams.  To access this, students need to go to www.office.com and use their regular school log in.

The Knowledge Organisers are designed to help students learn a wide range of knowledge which in turn will enable them to be well prepared for lessons and eventually their GCSEs.

To get the most out of the Knowledge Organiser, sections should be learnt and then self-tested.  The sections should not just simply be copied out!

Please look through the videos below give some ideas on how best to help your child to maximise their knowledge organiser use.
