Across the curriculum, we provide our pupils with the opportunity to experience a wealth of Literature, which hones their ability to infer meaning and develops their understanding of social and historical context. Within English Language, we explore texts relating to the everyday world, encouraging our pupils to decode meaning and offer ample opportunity for students to write creatively. Students are also able to enhance their vital life skills through regular Speaking & Listening tasks, which are tailored to ‘real word’ scenarios. As well as Key Stage 3 students receiving expert Drama training, Drama opportunities are also embedded within our English schemes of learning to foster team work, collaboration and negotiation skills. Ultimately, we strive for the best in everyone.
Key Stage 3
KS3 students in each year group study a series of texts which are thematically linked. The texts studied include a play, a modern novel, a Shakespeare text and a range non- fiction texts. We also work extensively with students to develop their creative and transactional writing skills, as well as promoting the importance of speaking and listening skills through a variety of activities both in and outside of the classroom.
