The RS curriculum at Salford City Academy is intended to:
•Develop learner’s knowledge and understanding of religious and non-religious beliefs by looking at the different beliefs, teachings, practices and sources of wisdom and authority used in a selection of religions.
•Develop learner’s ability to construct well-argued, well-informed, balanced and structured written arguments, which will demonstrate their depth and breadth of understanding of the subject.
•Provide opportunities for learners to engage in questions of belief, value, meaning, purpose, truth and their influence on human life.
•Challenges learners to reflect on and develop their own values, beliefs and attitudes in the light of what they have learnt and contributes to their preparation for adult life in a pluralistic society and global community.
The curriculum at Salford City Academy will enable learners to deepen their understanding of relationships between people, become informed about common and divergent views within different traditions in the way beliefs and teachings are understood and expressed.
Learners will understand that religions in Great Britain are diverse and can include the following six world religions: Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and Sikhism, as well as non-religious views such as atheism and humanism. Learners can choose to opt for RS and continue their studies following the WJEC Eduqas, specification, Route A at GCSE level.
