Willy Wonka and the DEAR Launch!

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our new DEAR books this half-term! Each book has been carefully selected to support students not only in their reading ability and comprehension, but to gain a better understanding of the world around them and to explore social issues, such as race, alongside what it is to be human.
The books are as follows:
Year 7 – ‘The Graveyard Book’ by Neil Gaiman
Year 8 – ‘The Lie Tree’ by Frances Hardinge
Year 9 – ‘The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time’ by Marcus Haddon
Year 10 – ‘The Hate U Give’ by Angie Thomas
As students enter Year 9/10, the books they read may have some adult content - including explicit language – but this will be approached with sensitivity and maturity.
To celebrate the launch of our new DEAR books, students took part in a LIVE competition on Friday during DEAR time to find a ‘Golden Ticket’ to win a prize from the Academy’s very own Willy Wonka-style team! Students were incredibly excited to open their new books; we hope they will enjoy reading them just as much as the staff do!
