Careers Day a huge success at Salford City Academy
/ Categories: News, General
Recently, the whole of Year 9 came together at Salford City Academy to spend the academy day off-timetable in preparation for their guided GCSE options.
Throughout the day's events, students enjoyed a huge variety of different career experiences, from job-match and interview skills sessions with Standguide Ltd, to a talk about the ever-growing UK logistics sector.
The day also featured a visit to a Class 1 truck with our friends from Transport Training Academy and even multiple networking sessions with a variety of employers from across key sectors of employment. During these sessions, Salford City Academy students were informed about differing job roles and received advice based on career experiences to date from employees across the fire service, business, human resources, IT and even The British Army.
Students enjoyed workshops with Learn to Earn; who spent time looking at dream lifestyles and budgets, what success means and goal setting for the future.
To top the day off in style, Salford City Academy were proud to welcome students and the local community as it hosted its annual careers fair. Once again, the academy opened-up its doors to local colleges, apprenticeship training providers and local universities - working in partnership to benefit the futures and prospects of academy students.
Many students enjoyed the activities and now feel more focussed on selecting their chosen GCSE subjects; whilst planning for the long term with next steps to college and beyond.
Jacey-Lea, Year 9, said “The careers day was really good, my favourite part was seeing the truck, we even got to sit in it, all of the day was amazing. We also spent some time talking about our dream job and spoke to people about what options they took at school. Today has helped me to understand my options more and has given me the knowledge to pick my options at GCSE.”
