Communication Is Key For Award Winners

The achievements of some of our best Year 9 and Year 10 students were celebrated during our annual Bishop Nigel McCulloch Communications Awards ceremony.

Staff nominated dozens of students for the prestigious honours, which were introduced two years ago following a generous donation from governor Professor Diana Kloss in honour of Bishop Nigel McCulloch.

All nominated students gathered in the main hall, before Professor Kloss announced the names of subject winners in English, Maths, Science and Technology.
A special Kindness Award was then presented to Year 9 student Danielle McGrath, who was nominated by Ms Bell for being ‘caring, compassionate and the best she could possibly be’.

Finally, the top prize – the Bishop Nigel McCulloch Communications Award itself – was given to Sinead Ryan (Year 9) and Brandon Davidson (Year 10), with both students receiving a certificate, Amazon Kindle and Trafford Centre vouchers in recognition of ‘leading lessons, group work, being a source of positivity and being a genuine pleasure to teach’.

Speaking after the event, Professor Kloss said: “I am honoured to be a governor at Salford City Academy and wish all students the best in their future careers.”

Salford City Academy Principal Ms Haselden said: “The ability to write and communicate ideas and thoughts is more important now than ever before. Across all subjects the ability to articulate is a skill that we are rightfully celebrating and I am incredibly proud of all students receiving their awards today. Thank you once more to Professor Kloss for making this ceremony possible.”
