Students rise to the challenge set by a Young Writers competition
Salford City Academy students were asked to write a Grim Tale; an original story with a bit of a twist or a well-known classic with a brand new spin. Maintaining a ‘mini saga’ format, with a beginning, a middle and an end, students had to stick to 100 words or less.
Young Writers launch regular competitions, such as Grim Tales, as they believe they encourage learning and taking part in literacy. They judge all the nationwide entries and many students are successfully selected to see their work published in a book shared across the UK and the Republic of Ireland, providing a lasting record of their achievement.
We are pleased to announce that of the 44 student submissions successfully selected for the book, four are now in print! Congratulations to Casey Timmis (Yr 9), Jennifer Louise Mcphee (Yr 9), Sam Collantine (Yr 9) and Charlie Rushworth (Yr 10).
There is a Grim Tales copy within the academy’s library for students, staff and visitors to enjoy!
