SCA Awarded an International School!

We are celebrating after being presented with an International School Award from the British Council.

The award celebrates schools that have fostered an international ethos across their community and embedded this learning within their curriculum. In winning the Foundation level of the award, Salford City Academy has proven itself to be committed to enhancing students’ understanding of other countries, cultures and global issues. Key to the school’s success in delivering this kind of international education is its involvement in the Modern Language Assistant programme.

Each October, the school welcomes a foreign language assistant, typically a university student or graduate, who spends several terms at the academy supporting students with their language development and speaking skills. As well as giving students access to authentic listening material and texts, the assistants speak about their native culture and customs, providing students with a unique insight into other societies around the world.

This year’s assistant, Miss Beaudoin, hails from France and has proven invaluable in supporting students with their French speaking. Working closely with small groups of students, she helps them practice their pronunciation, learn colloquialisms and idioms and develop confidence in their speaking abilities. Throughout the lockdown period, students have continued to benefit from Miss Beaudoin's support. She has virtually attended every French live lesson and has also delivered mini-intervention sessions in the afternoons.

Our Principal Ms Haselden, said:

“All of us at the academy are delighted to have received this recognition from the British Council. Each year, our Modern Language Assistant proves to be a fantastic addition to both our Languages department and our wider school community. They help give our students the confidence they need to express themselves clearly and articulately and provide invaluable insights into different types of customs and cultures around the world – both of which are key to how we deliver an Education with Character.”
