SCA Celebrates Diversity Week

Salford City Academy students spent a week broadening their horizons as they celebrated Diversity Week.

The theme of the week centred around raising awareness of LGBT+, with the Just Like Us and Stonewall charities generously getting involved.

Students received rainbow badges to display on their uniforms to demonstrate their support for the LGBT+ community, while a brand new LGBT+ display board went up near the refectory to provide information to those wanting to find out more.

In lessons, students had the chance to make their own LGBT+ awareness posters and also got involved in debate sessions to discuss issues around discrimination and acceptance.

MFL Teacher Mr Penney, who organised the week of activities, said: “I am immensely proud of our students who had an overwhelmingly positive response to everything we have covered this week.

“It is so important to create a culture of acceptance and respect for one another and it is brilliant to experience this at SCA. LGBT+ awareness is such an important topic and everyone in school has been totally committed to spreading the word that homophobia is something that will not be tolerated.”
