SCA Celebrates World Book Day

Students and staff at Salford City Academy celebrated World Book Day in style, marking the occasion with a wide range of literary-related activities and fancy dress!

Staff competed for the title of best costume, with some fantastic efforts including an Oompa Loompa, the Queen of Hearts and several Harry Potters. However, it was Mr McCracken’s Joker outfit that stole the show – and first place!

Elsewhere, the library was a hub of activity throughout the day, with students getting the opportunity to have a go at several quizzes based on some of their favourite books including Dr Who and Roald Dahl. Other competitions included students being challenged to name three different authors and books they had written, and a Where’s Wally contest - where participants had to find the famous character hidden amongst the bookshelves.

Prizes included free books and chocolates, while every student received a Book Token. Callum Rogers (Year 7) won the prestigious honour of first place in the Design A Book Token competition, with his work being sent off to World Book Day organisers to potentially be used all over the country next year.

SCA Literacy Co-ordinator Mrs Hawley said: “We had a fantastic day, and it was great to see so many students and staff make such a superb effort in contributing to World Book Day. It was brilliant to see such a love of reading throughout the academy and plans are already underway for next year’s event to be even bigger and better!”
