Winter School Games 2017

Students join 2,200 competitors in the Greater Manchester event

On 21st March, 2,200 Greater Manchester students joined together to compete in 29 competitions across 15 different sports in nine iconic sporting venues across the county.

The competitions were also supported by over 150 young volunteers.

The event started with all school pupils gathering at Sport City’s Indoor Athletics Arena for the opening ceremony.

Salford City Academy students Alisha Roebuck, Georgia Bravender, Rebecca Doyle, Josh Mort, Layton Lovell, Morgan Burtwhistle- Smith and Mackenzie Mercer competed in the U16 Volleyball competition.

School Games Co-ordinator, Rebecca Robinson, said:

“All of the students played really well, the games were close and the competition level was high. It is a great achievement in itself to represent Salford at the Greater Manchester School Games and the students should be extremely proud of themselves.”

Other events on the day included:

Basketball, boccia, gymnastics, handball, hockey, lacrosse, netball, rugby league, rugby union, sportshall athletics, swimming, table tennis and water polo.
