Year 11 Students Work Out The Sum For Success With Top Mathematician

Our Year 11 students spent time with one of the country’s leading accountants to find out exactly what it will take to succeed in their future careers.

Mohammed Amin MBE has been listed as one of the hundred most influential Muslims in the UK on several occasions, and graduated from Cambridge in Mathematics, despite his parents being illiterate.

He visited Salford City Academy to talk to students about his life and upbringing, and how making the right choices can help to overcome any obstacle on the road to becoming a success.

After a presentation to Year 11 in the Main Hall, students had the opportunity to ask him questions that covered a range of topics, including everything from when he first realised he’d ‘made it’, to what car he drives. Mr Amin explained that the moment he believed he had become successful was when he was able to turn down the offer of a visit to 10 Downing Street because he had been there so many times before!

Head of Year 11 Mrs Nolan said: “We can’t thank Mr Amin and the Speakers4Schools programme enough for arranging to come and speak to our students, who really took a lot from the session.

“It was a great message to hear that – regardless of background and barriers – everyone has a chance to get to the top of whatever career they choose to pursue so long as they have the right attitude from the start.”
