Year 8 Pre-Options
/ Categories: News
On Wednesday 19th March, Year 8 students experienced a Pre-Options Day.
Salford City Academy has brought the options process (for subjects studied to GCSE) forward by a year and is now asking Year 8 students to make pre-option selections.
By September, Year 8 students will have selected 3 to 4 pre-option subjects to study (dependent on their literacy ability) to maximise their progress of students into Year 9 and beyond.
The day began with an assembly to outline the aims of the day and subjects on offer. Students then attended taster sessions all day. For the first time, students had the opportunity to experience Construction, Drama, Business Studies, Computing, Spanish, Catering and more.
Students also visited an Options Fair and subject stalls. Teaching staff and current students studying those subjects were on hand to answer questions. In addition, students had options meetings with our careers advisors during the week.
Victoria Birchwood, Head of School, said:
“It is vitally important that Year 8 experience high quality information, advice and guidance in order to make their pre-option choices for the subjects they will study next year. By beginning to practice these skills earlier, and by having a choice in the subjects they study, we anticipate students will get better results when they take their GCSE examinations in Year 11”.
Parents and carers, alongside students, were invited to Year 8 Parents Evening and Options Event to discuss student pre-option choices further with subject teachers, senior staff and Connexions.
