Prison and Police Day Gives Paws For Thought

SCA hosted a four-legged friend along with some special guests from the prison service and police force this week to raise awareness of crime prevention.

Throughout the day, all year groups took part in a mix of assemblies, presentations and workshops with a prison officer from Strangeways Prison, and a local PC and PCSO - covering a range of topics from decision-making to the dangers of social media.

However, one of the day’s highlights had to be the visit of one of the force’s police dogs, with students having the opportunity to meet him and ask questions – finding out that it costs £34,000 to train just one of the animals.

Vice Principal Mr Leader was even brave enough to take part in a demonstration showing how effectively the dog can bring a suspected criminal to ground!

The day ended with the visitors presenting SCA with a special Pupil Of The Year plaque that will be awarded before the end of the Summer term.

Head of Year 10 Ms Nolan, who organised the day, said: “We can’t thank the staff from GMP and HM Prison Service enough for running their awareness day – it was an excellent opportunity to learn a lot about the importance of making the right life choices and students were thoroughly engaged and entertained!”
