At SCA, we believe that some of the most memorable learning experiences happen when students are given the opportunity to try something new, discover a talent and challenge themselves. That is exactly what our Aspire Period 5 and Period 6 Enrichment Programme is designed to do.
Every student in Years 7 to 9 takes part in Aspire as part of the weekly curriculum, opening the door to an exciting range of experiences beyond traditional classroom learning. From Dance and Rugby Academy to Axiom Maths, STEM On Track, Italian Culture, Spotlight News, Baking, Music, Art and SCA Code Lab, there really is something for everyone.
Aspire isn't simply about learning a new skill. It is about developing the confidence, resilience, curiosity, teamwork and ambition that underpin our commitment to outstanding character.
And our students say it best.
Sophie (Make Up Club), enjoys the social side of enrichment as well as developing new skills:
“I can be with my friends and practise make-up on each other.”
For Asim (Boxing), Aspire provides a completely different challenge:
“It helps me to get fitter and stronger and it teaches me to stand and punch correctly.”
Academic enrichment is proving just as inspiring. Thomas, who attends Axiom Maths, explained:
“We solve maths problems and it makes me think like a university student.”
That sense of aspiration is exactly what the programme aims to create. We want our students to see where their interests and talents could take them in the future.
There is also plenty of excitement in our STEM activities. Emalei-May (STEM On Track) told us:
“I am enjoying STEM for all the fun activities. I can’t wait for the final competition!”
Aspire is giving students opportunities to find their voice too. Annabelle Spotlight News, said:
“I have learnt how to interview people and see things differently!”
Meanwhile, Ashley (Italian Culture), told us:
“It is great learning a new language.”
And sometimes the simplest feedback captures exactly why enrichment matters. Lottie (Dance), said:
“I really like dance because it’s so fun and I really like the dance instructor. I love dance so much."
More than 400 students staying after school
Aspire continues to thrive at SCA, with over 400 students staying after school each week to take part in clubs, activities and enrichment opportunities. From sport and the arts to STEM and leadership, students are choosing to develop new skills, pursue their interests and build friendships beyond the classroom.
The programme continues to grow, with exciting new opportunities being introduced. After half-term, Year 7 students will be able to take part in Padel, learning the game through expert coaching and playing at specialist off-site facilities. Sign-up details will be shared through the Aspire programme next week.
Aspire also helps students represent SCA with pride. Through sports teams, performances and Academy events, students develop teamwork, resilience, confidence and leadership skills. At our recent Open Evening, 80 students volunteered their time to welcome families and showcase everything that makes SCA special, demonstrating outstanding character in action.
Whether discovering a new passion, representing the Academy or simply getting involved, Aspire is helping students build confidence, develop character and feel a strong sense of belonging within the SCA community.
Aspire. Get involved. Try something new. Discover your potential. Build Outstanding Character.
