Year 9 Guided Choices

Choosing GCSE options can be a challenging time.  We are here to offer support and guidance every step of the way to help you to make informed decisions about your KS4 courses.

As you begin to make important decisions that will affect your future, we aim to ensure that you have the right careers education, information and guidance to put you on a path to reach your full potential.

We hope that you enjoy the process of learning about the different courses and subjects on offer, as well as having conversations about your future aspirations, including further education, training and employment.

Preparing To Choose Your KS4 Subjects

In preparation for choosing your options, you will participate in a range of careers related activities to ensure you fully understand the future career pathways open to you.  You will also have the opportunity to find out more about the different courses on offer through:

  • Assemblies
  • Tutor time activities
  • Taster lessons
  • Options Information Evening
  • SCA Guided Pathways Booklet

Guided Pathways Booklet

The Guided Pathways Booklet outlines all the available options and provides detailed information about each of the courses on offer to help you make an informed decision. For each subject, you will find information about what you will study and how the course is assessed. You will also find signposting to linked further educational pathways and careers particularly useful in helping you to make your decisions.

The information for each subject included in this booklet forms a starting point for you to begin making your decision.  We suggest that you read this booklet thoroughly and discuss your intended choices with your teachers, as well as your parents/carers and other adults in your family.

When making your choices, think about where studying those subjects can lead, in terms of courses in further education, higher education, and in the world of work, as well as your aptitude and interest in those subjects. In particular, consider the careers that you are interested in and which subjects are needed to access those careers.
