Pupil Premium

Pupil premium funding was introduced by the Government in April 2011. This funding is designed to help improve the educational outcomes for disadvantaged pupils in schools in England. Evidence shows that disadvantaged children can often face additional challenges in terms of reaching their potential at school and may not perform as well as their peers.

Pupil premium funding is allocated according to:

  • Pupils who are eligible for free school meals (FSM) or have been eligible in the past 6 years.
  • Pupils who have been adopted from care or who have left care.
  • Children who are looked after by the local authority.

How Do We Spend Pupil Premium?

At Salford City Academy, we spend the funding specifically on additional educational support to raise the standards of attainment for disadvantaged students. We do this through:

  • Rigorously tracking and monitoring student attendance and progress.
  • One-to-one support and mentoring by teachers and support staff.
  • Providing enrichment activities.
  • Support disadvantaged students in music lessons, graded exams, and other examinations.
  • Small group work and class support.
