A December to remember at SCA! From creative competitions to community celebrations, discover how we’re spreading festive cheer within school and beyond this Christmas season.
The festive season has arrived at Salford City Academy, and we’re thrilled to share the exciting activities and events taking place throughout December to bring joy to our students, staff, and local community.
In-School Festivities
Introducing the SCA Advent Calendar! Each day in December, five lucky students (one from each year group) are selected at random and announced over the tannoy to claim a prize from that day's box. From giant chocolate bars to Greggs and Starbucks vouchers, these daily treats are spreading plenty of festive cheer.
On 11th December, students and staff will don their best festive knits for Christmas Jumper Day, raising funds for Save the Children. A special Christmas lunch will also be served to mark the occasion.
Festive Performances
On 3rd December, our Expressive Arts department will host the Winter Showcase, featuring music and dance performances from talented students - and even a special appearance from our staff band! Primary school pupils from Barton Moss will enjoy the show during the day, and there will be an evening performance for parents and the wider community.
On 10th December, we are hosting our Primary Carol Concert at St Andrew’s Church in Eccles, bringing together local primary schools and our SCA choir for a day of singing and festivities.
Community Spirit
On 10th December, we’re introducing a brand-new event: Santa’s Sleigh on Brookhouse Estate. Starting at 5:30pm, Santa and his SCA staff helpers will spread festive joy along a set route, handing out chocolate coins to children. Join us and help spread festive cheer throughout our local community!
On 12th December, we’ll welcome 100 senior citizens for our annual Senior Christmas Lunch, complete with a delicious meal served by our Year 11 GCSE Catering students and entertainment from our choir. This lovely event is a highlight of our SCA Community Hub initiatives.
Creative Competitions
Students are showcasing their artistic talents in our Bauble Decorating Competition, which launched on 1st December. The winning designs will be carved into wooden baubles by our Technology department and proudly displayed on the Academy’s Christmas tree. Judging takes place on 8th December.
Our Christmas Door Decorating Competition begins on 10th December, inviting form groups and staff offices to transform their doors with festive themes. This tradition always makes the school feel warm and festive. Judging will take place on 17th December.
From creative competitions to community celebrations, this December promises to be truly special at Salford City Academy.
