Community Health at the Heart of Family Festival

Over 130 health checks completed as Salford community embraces wellbeing conversations at Salford City Academy's Family Festival.

At our annual Family Festival on Saturday 16th May, we brought the community together to promote health and wellbeing accross the area.

We had Salford Health Improvement Connect attending our event, and they saw an incredible response from families keen to engage with support and advice. Over the course of the day, an impressive 137 Mini Health Checks were carried out, giving people a quick and accessible way to better understand their health.

There was also a big push to help people get moving, with 184 pedometers handed out to promote the Brookhouse Walk. It was great to see members of the existing walking group there too, chatting with people and encouraging others to get involved. Hopefully, this will inspire even more people to join in and “Move More” in the weeks ahead.

Children were also supported on the day, with 82 receiving colourful toothbrushes to help keep their smiles healthy at home.

What really stood out, though, were the conversations happening throughout the day. The team had six meaningful discussions around breast cancer, along with enquiries about upper gastrointestinal cancers. Three men also came forward to talk about prostate cancer, showing just how important it is to create spaces where people feel comfortable opening up about their health.

These kinds of conversations don’t always happen easily, but events like this help make them feel more natural, building trust and breaking down barriers.

The Health Improvement Team shared how much they appreciated the warm welcome and organisation on the day, and we’re incredibly proud to have created an environment where this kind of engagement can happen.
