We welcomed leading engineering professionals into Salford City Academy to celebrate International Women in Engineering Day, inspiring our Year 8 girls to explore exciting careers in STEM and launching a brand-new opportunity for aspiring engineers.
To mark International Women in Engineering Day on 23 June, we were delighted to welcome a range of engineering professionals into Salford City Academy to speak with our Year 8 girls about their careers and experiences in the industry.
During the event, representatives from Farrat, PZ Cussons, Morson Praxis, AtkinsRéalis, OCS and STEM On Track shared their career journeys, offered valuable insight into their roles, and spoke honestly about working in what has traditionally been a male-dominated field. Their stories highlighted the many different pathways into engineering and demonstrated the exciting opportunities available to young women considering careers in STEM.
Our students had the chance to ask questions, learn more about the industry and hear first-hand how determination, curiosity and problem-solving skills can open doors to a wide range of careers.
We would like to extend a huge thank you to all of our guests for supporting this event and helping to spark ambition in our students.
We also ended the day with an exciting announcement – Salford City Academy is launching its very own Girls STEM on Track team!
Thanks to sponsorship from Farrat, we are proud to be introducing a second STEM on Track team next year, creating even more opportunities for our students to develop their engineering knowledge, teamwork and leadership skills through this innovative programme.Year 8 girls will soon be able to apply for a place on the team, sharing why they would make a great team member and the role they would like to take on within the project. We are incredibly excited about this new opportunity and look forward to seeing more of our students develop their confidence, skills and passion for STEM as they take on this exciting challenge.
