We were delighted to welcome Michael Wheeler, MP for Worsley and Eccles, to Salford City Academy this half-term!
He hosted a student roundtable with Year 9 and 10 students as a part of the government’s national conversation, ‘growing up in the online world’.
From social media age limits to screen time and online safety, our students shared their honest views and ideas, helping shape the future of how young people experience the digital world.
Hear from one of our Year 10 Students, Saule, about her experience of the event:
"When talking with Michael Wheeler, I found it incredibly interesting to not only learn about his views, but to be able to voice my own. Knowing that my opinions, as a young person, would be taken into account when he next spoke in Parliament helped me to feel like he really cared about our opinions on a social media ban that would affect us.”
“Furthermore, as someone who wants to work in politics when I’m older, I felt it was a very educating experience on how politicians debate in Parliament and how all issues need to be examined from all angles before making a decision on it.”
“All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed and learned a lot from talking with him.”
