British Science Week 2026 took place from 6th to 15th March, with the theme: “Curiosity: what’s your question?”
We celebrated British Science Week at SCA with a range of exciting activities designed to spark curiosity. From hands‑on practical experiments and creative homework challenges to a whole‑school ‘Curiosity Treasure Hunt’, where staff wore question‑themed T‑shirts. It was a fantastic opportunity for students and staff alike to explore this year’s theme and share our passion for science.
ZooLab: Biomimicry
To kick of the week’s celebrations, our Year 7 & 8 STEM Pioneers took part in workshops with ZooLab. Students explored how scientists and engineers take inspiration from the natural world to design new inventions and solve real-world problems.
They even got to meet some of the amazing creatures that have inspired cutting-edge technologies, including cockroaches and spiders! This clever approach to innovation is called biomimicry.
“What makes fireworks glow?”
We held a number of lunchtime and after-school practicals for students to explore the theme of curiosity. These included “what’s in your body?” with a dissection demo and “what makes planes fly” with paper aeroplane testing.
