Our Student Librarians are responsible for supporting the Library’s Learning Resource Centre Manager in running the library during break and lunch times.
Their duties include....
- Desk (Handing out and scanning student lunch passes)
- Books (Scanning in and cataloguing books after they have been issued in lessons)
- Games Manager (Responsible for sorting out games and tidying them away)
- Ranger and Check (Ensuring the LRC (Learning Resource Centre) is being used properly)

Our Leadership programme
Students can apply to be on the student leadership team to meet and be the voice of the students, discussing issues important to the students.
Our Aspire Leaders are ambassadors of the Academy and they support Academy events, sports leaders, library leaders and peer mentors. You too can apply to be an Aspire Leader when you start at the Academy.
At the Academy, we run a successful peer mentoring program. Students are selected from their application and primary schools. We choose 2 per feeder primary school. These students are trained over a 4 week period on how to answer and support new year 7 students. They have the opportunity to visit their primary school and speak with year 6 students who will be attending the Academy in September.
They are recognised by the shield badges they wear. Their photo will also be dispayed around the Academy.
Peer Mentors are a role model to students and may be asked to assist with special events. They may be asked to provide speeches and show visitors around the Academy.
Here at Salford City Academy, we encourage our students to get involved in as much as they can and be part of the Academy community.
At Salford City Academy, we believe in providing an Education with Character. This means that we do not just focus on academic success - we also aim to develop character, compassion and a sense of responsibility in our students throughout their time with us. We aim to provide opportunities for students that will inspire, excite and prepare them for life, which will raise their aspirations, allow students to make informed decisions about their future goals, develop confidence and have fun.
Our ‘Aspire’ curriculum will encompass all extracurricular activities, careers education, enrichment days and opportunities for students to become leaders. These will take place during period 6; 2.45- 3.45. It is compulsory for all students in Y7, 8 and 9 to attend at least one ‘Aspire’ session per week.
To support students with evaluating their current aspirations and provide support and guidance which will enable them to make informed choices about the opportunities available to them, all students will take part in an ‘aspiration’ survey. Information will be collated by your child’s tutor who will support and guide your child through throughout the year. This information will form part of your discussions with your child’s tutor during parent’s evenings.
For the first half term ‘Aspire’ sessions will run as taster sessions and students may ‘try out’ different sessions each week. Each student will have an individual ‘Aspire’ postcard where attendance will be recorded and monitored for their first 6 weeks. Any student to achieve a complete card will be awarded with their first ‘Aspire’ badge and collect rewards points which can be redeemed for various prizes and trips throughout the year. We are sure you will support us by taking the time to read through the booklet and discuss the options available with your child. At the end of this half term students will opt for the session(s) they wish to continue with in Autumn 2.
Some of the activities we currently offer are: Football, Netball, Trampolining, Fitness, Code Club, Art, Cooking, Homework, Technology, Drama, Dance, Dodgeball, Book Club, Debate Club, Drumming, Choir… and many more!
Special Educational Needs
Salford City Academy’s vision for students with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) is that they are provided with an education that enables them to achieve their best; become confident individuals living fulfilling lives; and to make a successful transition into adulthood, whether into employment, further education or training.
Salford City Academy will:
· have the highest aspirations for all young people with SEND and set appropriate targets for them
· keep young people with SEND informed so that they know precisely where they are in their learning and development
· ensure that decisions are informed by the insights of parents/carers and those of the young people themselves
· keep under review the additional or different provision that is made for them
· ensure that the approaches used are based on the best possible evidence and are having the required impact on progress.
Message from the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo)
Starting secondary school is a big step for every child, and for those with special educational needs or disabilities, it can be an even greater challenge. As a parent/ carer, you’ll want to make sure that we know how to meet your child’s needs.
I would like to reassure you that your child will receive the very best care from my team. We offer both in-class teaching assistant support as well as a menu of bespoke interventions tailored to your child’s individual needs. These include (but are not limited to) literacy and numeracy interventions, anger management, anxiety support, self-esteem workshops and counselling. Additionally, we work closely with a number of external professionals such as the Educational Psychology Service, Speech and Language Therapists, Salford Learning Support Service and CAMHS.
Every child on our SEND register is allocated a dedicated key worker who will work closely with students and parents/ carers. Your keyworker will prepare a student passport and manage a 12 week Plan, Do, Review Cycle in line with guidance issued in the SEND Code of Practice. Your key worker will ensure that all classroom teachers are fully informed about your child’s needs and how best to support them. Salford City Academy is committed to providing expert support and resources for children with SEND to fulfil their individual potential.

Are you struggling in regards to finances and need assistance with the purchase of school uniform?
We understand that the purchasing of uniform can be costly. Please don't be afraid to contact the Academy either via the dedicated email address for transition or by calling reception on 0161 789 5359.
We have local charities and we work closely with these to help with uniform. If you let the Academy know, we can assist you.

Q: I have recevied my new starter forms via post. What do I do when I have completed them?
A: Please send them into the Academy via post.
It is vital that these forms are completed as we need to ensure that we have all the up to date information for when your child starts with us in September.
Q: Can my child wear Kickers as their school shoes?
A: Yes, but they must be black leather and smart in appearance.
* Please note Kickers that resemble a pump or canvas style shoe are not suitable for school.
Q: Can I have my childs new starter pack sent via post rather than email?
A: Yes. Towards the end of May, we will be checking which of the first new starter forms (of the ones that were initially issued via email) have not been completed and returned. Any that are identified as not being returned will be issued via the post instead.
Q: Will there be taster sessions for my child to attend prior to starting at the Academy?
A: We understand how important it is that all our new year 7 students get an opportunity to experience the Academy setting prior to starting with us in September. We hope to be able to organise some transition events where we can but we need to ensure we do this whilst strictly adhering to the guidelines in regards to Covid-19.
Currently, we are having conversations with all of your existing primary schools to work out a plan that is safe and that adheres to the Government guidelines.

Q: Can I request a paper copy of the home learning pack for my child?
A: Paper copies of the work packs have been dropped off at all primary schools. If you contact your child's primary school, they will be able to arrange for you to collect the work pack.
